One convicted in murder of Odessa business owner

ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – A man, accused of stabbing a local business owner to death back in 2017 was convicted on Thursday, according to the Ector County District Attorney’s Office.

Officials confirm Joseph Madden was convicted in the murder of Joe Valenzuela, the former owner of Pepe’s T-Shirts.

The investigation began back on February 27, 2017 when officers were called to the business about a medical call. At the scene, Odessa Police reported finding Valenzuela dead with trauma to the face and multiple stab wounds to the back, prior reports indicate.

The suspect, Joseph Madden was later located in the Dallas area where he was arrested by the DeSoto Police Department and the Texas Rangers.

Madden has since been sentenced to 60 years in prison in the case.

First Assistant Lisa Borden and Assistance DA Bill Parasher prosecuted the case.
