ODESSA, Texas (Nexstar)- The March unemployment rate is sitting at 11 percent, according to information released Wednesday by the Odessa Chamber of Commerce.

According to a release, the total number of people unemployed in Odessa is around 8,698.

Those numbers, compared to March 2020, are quite high.

The unemployment rate this time last year was 4.7 percent with 4,055 people unemployed.

Good news is on the horizon with a new gasoline manufacturing facility coming to Ector County.

A release from the Houston-based company Nacero Inc says construction of the Penwell facility will employ a peak of 3,500 skilled workers during the four years of phase one construction.

When fully operational, the plant will employ 350 full time operators and maintenance personnel.

Construction is slated to begin in Penwell before the end of the year.
