ODESSA, Texas (Nexstar)- The April unemployment rate is sitting at 9.9% percent with 7,813 people unemployed, according to information released Tuesday by the Odessa Chamber of Commerce.
That’s an improvement from March when the unemployment rate was sitting at 11%.
For a year-to-year comparison, in April of last year, the rate was 13.5% with 10,992 people unemployed.
And more improvement may be on the way with many area businesses hiring.
Bubba’s 33 and Texas Roadhouse will be hiring to fill more than 80 full and part time positions at their Midland and Odessa locations starting June 7. Anyone interested in applying may schedule an interview time here.
Ector County Sheriff’s Office, Big Spring Police Department and other area law enforcement agencies are currently hiring.
Additionally, many local and national companies are looking to hire in the oil field.
A job fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 27th at the Ector County Coliseum and companies will be hiring on the spot for entry, mid level, and experienced positions.
