“Just one is to many, and we usually respond to them on a regular basis,” said Steve Lesueur, Public Information Officer for the Odessa Police Department.

Lesuer said the police department has been seeing accidents involving pedestrians way to often,

“The majority of ours have been a pedestrian had been in the roadway not crossing at a cross walk,” Lesueur said. ” And in some cases the pedestrian had been at a cross walk, however the driver wasn’t paying attention.”

According to OPD, these kind of accidents can be prevented, if the right precautions are taken.

“If you’re a driver, please watch out for pedestrians even if they are crossing the road,” Leseuer said. ” Even if they don’t have the right away, please just slow down for them.”

But there is also a responsibility for pedestrians who are crossing the roadways.

” Always be aware of your surroundings look both ways before you cross the street , but please cross at a cross walk,” Lesueur said. “But (drivers) are required to stop if they are crossing at a cross walk.”
