ODESSA, Texas (Nexstar) – Tine Ponce says her daughter is her best friend.
“She’s my anchor when I can’t hold onto anything,” Ponce said. “I’m so tired of crying.”
Tina says 25-year-old Brittany Martinez was shot in the back of the head and in the leg at her home in South Odessa on Drury Lane. The shooting happened early Wednesday morning. Another man was also shot.
“Doctors are still stating that she might lose her leg,” Ponce said.
Tina says Brittany and her three daughters had just moved into their South Odessa home less than a month ago to start a new job, and a new life. Brittany’s daughters were not at home at the time. They were staying with a family friend.
“Her poor little girls don’t even know where her mommy is right now,” Ponce said.
It’s still unclear what led up to the shooting or what happened inside the home. But Tina says she found out the shooting happened early in the morning around 1 A.M. Tina says she wants the attacker off the street.
“That’s not even a man… to shoot her point-blank in the back of her head,” Ponce said.
Neighbors in the area say the gun violence needs to stop.
“So much stuff could have happened. I’m pretty sure everyone on this block is on edge,” said Kameron Willard, a neighbor.
“I’m in shock. It could happen to my mom, too,” said Tito, a neighbor.
As for Tina, her love for her daughter is keeping her hopeful.
“I’m not going to leave her side, until the very end,” Ponce said. “I want her to know I love her with all my heart.”
