Both the Odessa High baseball and softball teams’ playoff hopes are still alive with more postseason games this weekend.
Odessa High softball will play a one-game Regional Semifinal series against Eaton in Hermleigh on Saturday.
Head Coach Rachel Pena said she had wanted to play a three-game series, but lost the coin flip which resulted in just one game. However, she said the Bronchos will come ready to play for that one game.
“Obviously I wanted a series, but we can make a one-game happen. We can make it work,” Pena said.
Some of her players agreed that a one-game series would not be that much different.
“Nothing much is going to change, we’re just going to clean up our defense and go hard every inning,” senior Kaylean Ayala said.
Her teammate Skyler Herrera agreed and said switching over a three-game mindset to one game would be the most important act of preparation.
The Bronchos have not won the Regional Semifinal round since 2008.
The Odessa High baseball team will play a three-game series against El Paso Montwood in Fort Stockton starting Friday.
The Bronchos are coming off a come-back victory over San Angelo Central in the Area Round. OHS has not won the Regional Quarterfinal round since 2009.
“It means that we’re hard workers. A lot of us didn’t expect to get this far, but our hard work got us through,” said senior infielder Gibrian Pena.
The Bronchos entered playoffs as the fourth seed out of District 2-6A, and is now one of only two teams out of the district still playing (Frenship will face Euless Trinity in the Regional Quarterfinals.
