Nine arrested in rooster fighting call

ANDREWS COUNTY, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Andrews County deputies arrested nine suspects over the weekend in connection with a rooster fighting call

Officials say around 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning, Andrews County deputies were called to the 2700 block of NE 480 about several suspects fighting roosters.

When deputies arrived, they located a large group being a trailer house fighting the roosters in a square pin, according to a release.

When they noticed deputies, seven of the suspects ran from the scene, authorities say.

In all, officials charged three in connection with the rooster fighting and the rest were charged with evading arrest.

  • Johnny Hernandez: (Cockfighting Cause/earn /fight) State Jail Felony.
  • Ricardo Garcia: (Cockfighting own/train/equip) Class A misdemeanor (Evading Arrest) Class A misdemeanor.
  • Roberto Armendariz: (Cockfighting own/train/equip) Class A misdemeanor, (Evading Arrest) Class A misdemeanor.
  • Andres Lopez: (Evading Arrest) Class A Misdemeanor.
  • Steven Hernandez: (Evading Arrest) Class A Misdemeanor.
  • Saul Contreras: (Evading Arrest) Class A misdemeanor.
  • Victor Contreras: (Evading Arrest) Class A misdemeanor.
  • Jesus Garcia: (Evading Arrest) Class A misdemeanor.
  • Alberto Bejarano unrelated local warrants.
