LEA COUNTY, New Mexico (Nexstar) – One man is dead following a fatal crash south of Hobbs, New Mexico.
On January 21 around 5 a.m., New Mexico State Police responded to a crash on State Road 18 near milepost 6.
Investigation revealed a tractor-trailer was traveling south on State Road 18 slowing to make a left turn. Then, a Ford SUV was also traveling south, tried to pass the tractor-trailer from behind in the northbound lanes.
The Ford sideswiped the tractor trailer then rolled.
According to a release, the driver of the Ford was Gary Marshall, of Mulberry, Tennessee. He was ejected from the vehicle and was later transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators say alcohol does not appear to have been a factor and seatbelts do not appear to have been worn properly. The crash is still under investigation.
