LEA COUNTY, New Mexico (Big 2/Fox 24) – A man from Mississippi was killed following a crash in Lea County Thursday evening, according to a release from the New Mexico State Police.

Officers were called to the crash around 6 p.m. on State Road 18 between Jal and the New Mexico, -Texas state line.

While investigating, officers learned the driver of a Chevrolet pickup, Demarcus Wilder, crossed the center line on State Road 18 and sideswiped a Chevrolet Equinox, the release reads.

Officers say the Chevrolet pickup then collided with a Dodge Ram, causing the Ram to roll. Three motorcycle riders then crashed while trying to avoid the collision, NMSP say.

Wilder, according to the report, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

NMSP say the drivers of the Equinox, two of the motorcycle drivers and the driver of the Dodge Ram were all taken to local hospitals.

Additionally, officers say alcohol does appear to be a factor in the crash and the investigation is ongoing.
