After a brief stint as the interim police chief, Michael Gerke has officially been appointed to the job.
According to a release from the City of Odessa, Gerke will now officially take over for former chief Timothy Burton who retired in March.
Gerke is a 22-year veteran of the Odessa Police Department.
“I believe Gerke has the respect of the men and women of the department and as a result I believe he’ll do an excellent job of leading the department into the future,” City Manager Richard Morton said in a statement. “His twenty years of service to Odessa has prepared him well and I’m looking forward to working with Chief Gerke.”
