The City of Midland and the Midland Chamber of Commerce have settled on a name for the new convention center set to open later this year.
Officials have chosen the Barbara and George H.W. Bush Convention Center to honor the former President with ties to Midland-Odessa.
The Bush family moved to Midland back in the 1940’s as George H.W. began a career in the oil and gas industry. H.W. had a long history of serving others, becoming the head of the CIA, Vice President and eventually the 41st President of the United States.
Bush 41, along with his wife Barbara both passed in last year.
Now, the City of Midland will cement their legacy and honor the former President and First Lady in the naming of the convention center.
“The Bush family service to Midland and West Texas is a shining example of why Midland, Texas remains a world class city,” city officials said in a statement.
The 76,000 square feet convention center is slated to be completed in September.
