MIDLAND, Texas (ABC Big 2 / FOX 24) – Minor league baseball returned to Midland as the Rockhounds opened their doors at Momentum Bank Ballpark for the first time in more than a year and a half.
” I’m excited about being here tonight I get to see a lot of my old friends,” said Dan Jaimerson.
” I really missed coming here, this is one of my favorite things to do here,” said Sloan Goodwin.
The Rockhounds took on the San Antonio Missions in front of a full capacity stadium.
“We are so excited just to have people back in the stands, we’re excited for all of the new concession
stand items we’re excited to have our team here,” said Rachael DiLeonardo, with the Midland Rockhounds.
But safety is still a priority to keep all fans safe.
“You will see sanitizing stations through out the concourse and cleaning employees around the concourse cleaning down high populated areas.” DiLeonardo said.
And fans are making sure to do their part to stay healthy.
“I’ve already had both my COVID shots so I feel a little comfortable being out here,” Jaimerson said. ” But anywhere you go you’ve got to take the precautions in case somebody else has it.”
Despite the pandemic, people were just glad to have a good time outdoors.
“It’s ‘a family tradition you know and you get to see the fans play and the guys just do everything they can to make it a family kind of atmosphere,” said Randy Bohannon.
The Midland Rockhounds beat the San Antonio Missions 6 -1. Many fans said they will be back for the next home game.
