MIDLAND, Texas (ABC Big 2/FOX 24) – Midlanders are concerned after racist fliers were found near their homes.
The FBI told ABC Big 2 and Fox 24 they have received multiple reports of these fliers in Midland and the wording on the fliers has a lot of people upset.
“I saw like paper down here and another one down there but I didn’t think anything of it,” said Midland resident Drake Brazell.
Brazell found the paper near his home and couldn’t believe what he saw.
“I picked it up out of curiosity and just started reading it and I noticed it was just like racial propaganda and all that stuff,” said Brazell. “It’s just kind of disheartening.”
The flier titled ‘white revolution’ calls for violence. Brazell saw several more of them around his Midland neighborhood and decided to do something to keep his neighbors from seeing them.
“I just started like picking it up all along there,” said Brazell.
Several neighbors who wanted to remain anonymous also found the papers and contacted the FBI. It’s now investigating Assistant Special Agent Daniel Ramos has advice for anyone who might find them.
“I would suggest for them not to touch it with their bare hands and put it in another bag just to persevere any fingerprints. If possible, take a picture of it of where it was in place and then collect it,” said Ramos.
While people are protected by the First Amendment, the FBI says anyone calling for violence could be held accountable.
“Those are going to be assets by the U.S. Attorney’s Office and they’re going to determine whether they can charge or not,” said Ramos.
Zachary Pfalzgraf who’s lived in the Basin all his life can’t believe this kind of rhetoric is being circulated here. He hopes those responsible are caught.
“We need to put a stop to it as soon as we can as best we can just quick and fast-paced,” said Pfalzgraf.
The FBI is still investigating who is responsible for these fliers. To report one to the FBI call the Midland agency at 432-570-0255 or go to their website Tips.FBI.gov.
