MIDLAND, Texas (ABC Big 2 / FOX 24) – Midland ISD has spent the last few months looking for a new superintendent, but the board says it is close to making a decision.
“We received over 30 applications to become our next permanent superintendent. We narrowed that list to five. We interviewed last week for the first round of interviews and this week we invited back our top three candidates,” said Midland ISD board president, Rick Davis.
Davis says they’ve narrowed down their search for a new superintendent. He says they will be looking at their top candidates this week.
“We’re scheduled to meet Thursday at 5:30 p.m to name our lone finalist with the thought being we’re going to choose one of these three finalists, if you will, to become our lone finalist,” Davis said.
Dr. Ann Dixon, Interim Superintendent, says she hopes this new person will help bring in a new light to MISD.
“There’s nothing out there that the board is looking for that isn’t an impossibility. So, I think that it’s
just the new hope, the new leadership, to get us going and stay on the track,” said Dixon.
The board says bringing in a new superintendent soon will be helpful to its success.
“Getting a superintendent, say starting in February – they’d have the spring to listen and learn
about this district and they’ll be able to participate in the budget process that we’ll adopt by the end of June,” said Davis.
While the MISD community waits on a decision, the district says it’s excited about the prospects.
“We’ve got great applicants and so I think that’s the main encouragement,” said Dixon.
Once the board announces their top candidate it will have to wait 21 days before it officially hires him/her. Midland ISD says the district could have a new superintendent as early as next month.
