MIDLAND, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Midland International Air and Space Port will soon get a facelift thanks to federal grant funding announced this week.

According to Sen. John Cornyn’s Office’s, MAF will receive $6,023,406 in federal funding for improvements to the terminal building.

The funding is provided through the Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Program.

“Texas’ population grows with each passing day, and as more people travel in and out of our state, it’s important our infrastructure is able to meet the demand without interfering with Texans’ quality of life,” said Sen. Cornyn in a statement Monday. “I’m proud that President Trump has made Midland a priority, and I look forward to seeing the impact this grant will have on our great state.”

The goal, according to Cornyn’s office, is to provide funding to airports to increase passenger and baggage efficiency by replacing the baggage systems and passenger boarding bridges.
