Midland County Sheriff Gary Painter dies overnight

MIDLAND COUNTY, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) Midland County Sheriff Gary Painter has died, according to a release from the Midland County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Painter was found unresponsive at his home Sunday morning.

Officials say an ambulance was dispatched to Painter’s home and EMS personnel tried to revive him but were unsuccessful.

He was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace David Cobos some time later.

The MCSO is asking the community to keep Sheriff Painter’s family in your thoughts and your prayers.

Midland County DA Laura Nodolf also issued a statement early Sunday.

The statement reads:

The Midland County District Attorney’s Office wishes to honor the life of Midland County Sheriff, Gary Painter. Sheriff Painter gave his all to his family, his country, and the citizens of Midland County. From his service in the Marine Corps to patrolling Midland County late at night, Sheriff Painter continued to give his all to his final days. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, the Midland County Sheriff’s Department and the entire community. Midland County DA Laura Nodolf

Funeral arrangements are pending.
