MIDLAND, Texas (Big 2 / Fox 24) – With the holiday season approaching, one Midland business is looking to give back to the community. For nearly four years Samantha Spencer and her husband Ben Spencer have owned Spirit Creations in Midland. After getting public support during the pandemic, Spencer decided to help others who are struggling by launching Thankful Thursday’s.

“We have felt very thankful and grateful for the community that when COVID hit and our store shut down and everything slowed down that the community really gathered around,” Spencer said. “We need to keep small businesses in Midland and through that support and our gratitude we said that small businesses are hurting but non profits are also hurting.”

Every Thursday this November, Spirit Creations will hold special shopping hours that will donate 10% of their sales to a local non-profit. Spencer’s first organization to help this month is the West Texas Food Bank.

“Feeding people, caring for people, the hospitality of gathering around the table is something that really speaks to me,” Spencer said. “So to help them especially coming up on Thanksgiving, and Christmas and Holidays.”

Craig Stoker with the West Texas Food Bank said they are thankful for this help while still supporting West Texans in need.

After the holiday season ends, Spencer hopes they’re work at Spirit Creations will inspire others to give back.

“Come together and say we’re still here, we’re still gonna support, and neighbors are still neighbors.” Spencer said. ” Midland and Odessa and the Permian Basin, we help each other out and that’s what we’re gonna do.”

Spirit Creation will be supporting a different local non-profit each week through out November. To support this initiative you can visit Spirit Creations at 2311 West Wadley Ave. in Midland.
