MIDLAND, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – When tragedy strikes, West Texans know exactly how to respond and that’s just what a young group of Midlanders did this weekend.
Following the mass shootings in Odessa, four boys, Trey, Cutter, Brody and Jaret knew they could make a difference for those who were hurting.
The boys devised a plan and set up a lemonade stand the following day. In just a few hours, they raised more than $1,000, which will not be donated to Officer Zack Owens of the Midland Police Department.
Officer Owens was released from Medical Center Hospital on Wednesday and has been transported to Alabama for special treatment.
Now, the MPD is thanking those boys for their kindness as the community rallies around Owens.
The MPD is also issued another round of thank you’s to the communities of West Texas and their support of Officer Owens.
Additionally, the department announced that those who would like to make donations for Officer Owens and do so at and Midland Community National Bank under MMPOA: Zack Owens.
