MIDLAND COUNTY, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – The Midland County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a new scam circulating.
Officials with the MCSO say they have received reports of someone calling residents pretending to be a priest, pastor or leaders of a church.
The caller, according to a release, then asks for money and gift cards that would be donated to a charitable cause.
Furthermore, officials say the caller is using a spoofed phone number with a local area code to make it seem more legitimate.
The MCSO is urging residents to not give any of their information to these called and to contact their church to confirm any charitable fundraisers. They are also encouraged to contact local law enforcement.
