Marathon Volunteer Fire Department responds to two grass fires

MARATHON, Texas (Nexstar)- The Marathon Volunteer Fire Department, assisted by a Brewster County deputy and ranch staff, battled two grass fires Thursday.

Around 4:06 p.m. June 10, MVFD was alerted to a grass fire on the Boss ranch north of town.

MVFD responded with several units and six fire fighters.

While on their way to the reported fire, they found another fire burning on McKnight ranch across Highway 385 from the first fire.

The responding units split up and the fires were contained, and the scenes cleared by 5:10 p.m.

MVFD says dry lightning is the probable cause for both fires, an estimated acre and a half burned between the two locations.
