One man has been charged after police officials say he drove towards officers and evaded arrest on Sunday morning.

Odessa Police officials say the investigation began around 2:08 a.m. when officers were working off-duty in the 2100 block of 8th Street.

At the scene, the officers noticed a man driving recklessly, spinning his tires and swerving through a parking lot, according to the release.

Officers reportedly tried to stop the driver in the parking lot.

However, police say the suspect, Dante Peters, drove in reverse away from the officers, ramming a vehicle and then accelerated towards the officers.

Police eventually caught Peters who was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a public servant, evading in a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident.
