MAF prepares for COVID-19

MIDLAND, TEXAS (Big 2/ Fox 24)- As many around the world are canceling events and thinking twice about traveling the Midland International Airport (MAF) is making sure they are doing everything they can to ease the minds of travelers.

“Our cleaning people have changed some of their focus areas. They’re now more into the socializing areas, they spend more time cleaning doorknobs, elevator buttons, seating areas at the gates, they wipe everything down,” says Director of Airports Justine Ruff.

She says they are also making sure they keep in mind the workers who are in contact with travelers every day.

“It’s hard you know a lot of our jobs are hands-on, inspections and the airfield and such obviously those jobs can’t be performed from home we just have to take it from a case by case basis.”

As for what’s being done in the air, many Airlines are saying they are following closely what Health Organizations and experts have to say.

Southwest sending its passengers an email saying quote “we are expanding the use of hospital-grade disinfectant throughout the aircraft. This goes beyond the standard CDC guidelines.”

“I’m hearing a lot of stories about people getting on planes and it smells like bleach and they’re wiping down their seat, that’s good,” says Ruff.

United is also taking extra measures and saying quote “when we are advised by the CDC of a person who has traveled on board and is potentially exhibiting coronavirus symptoms the aircraft is taken out of service and sent through a full decontamination process.”
