Love announces Senate bid

MIDLAND, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Midland City Councilman John B. Love has officially announced a bid for U.S. Senate.

The Councilman made his announcement Wednesday morning after he appeared on the list of Democrats vying to take on incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in 2020.

Love III, currently serves on the Midland City Council for District 2 and is currently the Mayor Pro Tem for the City.

According to his profile on the City of Midland website, Love III has served on various boards and with numerous organizations including the Permian Basin Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Governor of the State of Texas’ Border Trade Advisory Committee, the Midland Space Development Corporation and the Tall City Taskforce.

He was also elected as the President of the Texas Municipal League in 2018.

Love III said he is the ideal West Texan for the job.

“I’m a West Texas raised individual. I believe in a sense of fair play, I believe in justice, I believe in equality for everyone and those ethics, I believe, will help me be successful in Washington D.C.,” Love said following the announcement.

He has now entered a crowded field of candidates in the Primary election.
