Locals in the Super Bowl

It is safe to say, West Texas has made its imprint on the National Football League. 

Here are just a few West Texans who have played in the big game. 

Keith Bishop – Midland Lee 

Keith Bishop, a Midland Lee Rebel, played in three Super Bowls during his professional career, XXI, XXII and XXIV.

Cedric Benson – Midland Lee

Benson played in Super Bowl XLI with the Chicago Bears.

However, before his professional career, the running back was a state champion at Midland Lee and a Texas Longhorn. 

Benson would be drafted by the Bears in the 2005 NFL draft. 

Ryan Tucker – Midland Lee

Another Midland Lee alumni, Ryan Tucker played in two Super Bowls during his professional career. The Rebel would go on to play college ball at TCU and was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in 1997. 

Tucker would go on to become a Super Bowl Champion when the Rams defeated the Tennessee Titans in 2000. 

He would play in a second Super Bowl in 2002 with the Rams but were defeated by the New England Patriots. 

Ed Williams – Ector 

Ed Williams, an Ector High School alumni, played in Super Bowl XX. 

He began his carrer at Ector and moved on to play for the Texas Longhorns and was eventually drafted by the New England Patriots. 

Williams’ son is currently the starting running back for the Permian Panthers. 

Marcus Cannon – Odessa High School

Marcus Cannon is playing in his third Super Bowl tonight. 

Cannon, who spent his high school days at Odessa High, went on to play for TCU and was selected by the New England Patriots in 2011. 

He won his first Super Bowl in 2014 when the Patriots defeated the Seattle Seahawks.
