DIGITAL EXCLUSIVE: Former Nimitz head football coach honored

ODESSA, Texas (YourBasin) – It is an honor many years in the making. The ECISD Board of Trustees voted tonight to name the Nimitz Middle School football and soccer field after former head coach Myron Schneider. The Board of Trustees also voted 7-0 to approve a donation of funds to install a scoreboard at the junior high school.

According to ECISD, donations for the scoreboard were provided by Aim Bank, Pitts Oilfield Services, and The Havens Group. Two of the three donors are past athletes from Nimitz Middle School.

Schneider joined the Nimitz football team when the school opened in 1966. In 1968, Schneider was named head coach. During his 16-year tenure at the school, he had an outstanding record of 120-20-3.

In 1972, his 9th-grade team went undefeated, untied, and unscored-on. Schneider later became the junior varsity coach at Permian High School and held that position until he retired in 1991.
Schneider’s junior varsity record was 69-1-2. The one loss and two ties during his varsity year happened in his first year. After that, Schneider did not lose a game for seven straight seasons.
