The co-founder of Bush’s Chicken has passed away.  Charlene Bush died Monday after a five-year battle with cancer.

She and her husband Keith started the popular chicken restaurant chain in 1996, opening its first location on Hewitt Drive in Waco.  They started franchising the idea in 2005.  Now there are over 85 restaurants throughout the state.

According to a press release from the company, Charlene Bush was active in and generously donated to numerous local charities, including Fuzzy Friends.  The Bushes also donated thousands of Bush’s Chicken meals to soldiers and families at Fort Hood.

Charlene Bush was 63 years old.

Funeral arrangments are still being finalized at this time.
