ODESSA, Texas (FOX 24) – For 45 years, a record store has stood the test of time right here in the Basin.  Meet the owner who’s following in his father’s footsteps. Sam Logan’s father opened the record store back in July of 1975.

“It just felt natural to continue my dad’s legacy,” said Logan.

The Odessa man basically grew up in there.

“We’ve had a lot of long-time customers who have been coming in here since the day we opened and now, they’re bringing their kids and their grandkids in,” said Logan.  “Now, we have a new generation of kids that have fallen back in love with vinyl.”

Customers like 22-year-old Vanessa Gonzalez.

“They just don’t make music like they used too,” said Gonzalez.  The sound of it is just very different.  It’s a very nostalgic feeling, it makes me feel really like magical.”

That magical feeling is the same for 17-year-old Deacon Perez.

Deacon Perez, Customer

“It’s just so nice to look at and it’s so nice to put on a record player and listen, even the audio sounds different on the records, it’s amazing,” said Perez.

“We live in a society where so many things are digital and so many things are done online.  It’s hard to have an actual experience where you can hold something in your hands and actually enjoy it.  I feel like people appreciate those things more because of the world we live in now,” said Logan.

His passion is promoting creative freedom and inspiring people to be themselves.

“We live in a culture that tries to put people in a box.  I feel like places like this, we help people just be more comfortable in their own skin,” said Logan.

Customers also say it’s important to keep places like this open in our community.
