What to do if someone goes missing

Local News

ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Many missing person investigations have been open in the Basin. With multiple missing people in recent weeks, we turned to officer Steve Lesueur to explain OPD’s procedure on their investigation process and what you should do if you think somebody’s life is in danger.

“It’s important to know one of the biggest misconceptions is that you have to wait 24 hours or 48 hours until someone goes missing and that’s not the case. If you feel somebody’s life is in danger it’s important to call or report them immediately to the Odessa police department,” said Steve LeSueur.

LeSueur has stated that OPD exhausts all its resources and efforts for its investigations. After, OPD will turn to the news and social media in their continued efforts to locate the missing person.

“What happens is we determine the severity of the situation. A lot of the time we have a detective investigate it and once they have exhausted all the resources, in a lot of cases we will reach out to the media,” said LeSueur.

LeSueur says there are multiple apps for people to use that some people don’t know to exist. Apps such as Safety Savvy, Safety Central, and All Kids Safe.

LeSueur encourages people to report any missing person as quickly as possible.
