AUSTIN, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – The University INterschoolastic League has delayed the start of 6A and 5A football.
According to an update from the UIL Tuesday morning, the decision was made to address COVID-19 concerns that exist in major metropolitan areas.
Under the new guidelines, 6A and 5A football and volleyball will be allowed to begin practicing on Sept. 7 and the first games will take place Sept. 14 for Volley ball and Sept. 24 for football.
“Our goal in releasing this plan is to provide a path forward for Texas students and schools,” said UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt. “While understanding situations change and there will likely be interruptions that will require flexibility and patience, we are hopeful this plan allows students to participate in the education-based activities they love in a way that prioritizes safety and mitigates risk of COVID-19 spread.”
