CULBERSON COUNTY, Texas (Nexstar)- Border Patrol agents say Saturday they found a U-Haul parked behind a McDonald’s off I-10 in Van Horn carrying 35 illegal migrants.
The illegal migrants were locked inside the vehicle, and many were dehydrated, according to a Culberson County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.
All 35 were taken to the Culberson County Hospital where health care providers said some would not have survived had they not been found.
Sheriff Oscar Carrillo said in the post the driver of the U-Haul has been taken into custody.
Border agents, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, and Sheriff’s Offices in the area have reported many human smuggling attempts in recent months. These attempts can be dangerous for those crossing the border, especially as temperatures in Texas continue to ride.
