WARD COUNTY, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – An El Paso man, along with an Odessa man, were killed following a head-on crash near Barstow Monday, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Troopers were called to the crash around 7:27 a.m. Monday on Business Interstate 20, about two and a half miles west of Barstow.
While investigating, troopers learned the driver of a Ford F-250 fell asleep at the wheel, cross the center line and struck a Nissan pickup head-on, according to the release.
The driver of the Nissan, Horacio Acosta-Ramirez, of El Paso, and the passenger, Rene Cruz of Odessa, were both pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, officials say.
The driver of the Ford, Matthew McKenzie, and three passengers, were all taken to Medical Center Hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.
