Local News

On August 5, 2020 at approximately 8:00 a.m., Officers and Detectives with the Midland Police Department responded to the 1600 block of E. Pecan in reference to an aggravated robbery.

The suspect, 39-year-old Hiawatha Crawford, contacted the homeowner who works on cars from his residence. During the contact, 19-year-old Exavion Crawford and three unnamed juveniles, exited their vehicle and began to assault the homeowner. As a result of the assault, the homeowner sustained minor injuries which did not require treatment.

During the assault, one of the suspects displayed a handgun while another suspect took a set of keys to a vehicle that was at the residence waiting to be serviced. The suspects stole the car and fled the residence.

The suspect’s vehicle and the stolen vehicle were later located in the parking lot of Compass Pointe Apartments where Hiawatha and Exavion Crawford are known to reside. Because of the display of a firearm, the Midland Police Department SWAT team was called to the scene.

Suspects refused to exit the apartment and gas was deployed. Once the suspects exited the apartment, Hiawatha and Exavion Crawford were taken into custody without further incident.

Both Hiawatha and Exavion Crawford were arrested on charges of aggravated robbery.

The investigation is ongoing. There are no further details at this time.
