Tire blowout causes driver to lose control, crash

UPTON COUNTY, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – An Odessa man has died following a collision with a semi-truck Thursday, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Troopers were called to the crash around 5:33 p.m. Thursday on FM 1555, about seven miles north of Rankin.

While investigating, troopers learned that Luis Vaquera was headed east on FM 1555 when the front tire blew out causing him to lose control of his semi-truck, according to a release.

Vaquera then entered the westbound lanes and collided with a a Chevrolet pickup, officials say.

The driver of the pickup, Cesar Rios, along with Vaquera were injured in the crash and taken to Shannon Medical Center Hospital in San Angelo for treatment.

A passenger in the pickup, Oliver Rodriguez, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, officials say.

The report states Rios and Rodriguez were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
