LUBBOCK, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Like many universities across the country, Texas Tech is taking steps to keep students safe.

On Thursday, the University announced classes scheduled from March 23 through 27, will be cancelled.

Course work will continue on March 30 online, according to a release from TTU. The Red Raiders will join suit with UT Austin and Baylor who announced this week that they would extend the Spring Break holiday.

Texas Tech also plans to put restrictions on athletic and other university related events. Those restrictions are expected to be announced later today.

Despite the changes, University officials say the campus will remain open.
