ECTOR COUNTY, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – It’s rare for anyone to have 30 years with the same company these days.
But Sgt. Gary Duesler is one of those people.
After 30 years of dedicated service to the people of Ector County, Sgt. Duesler is hanging up his hat. A “changing of the guard” as he called it.
“Well you know, as of tomorrow, I will have 30 years with the county and 68 years old and you put those two combinations together and I figure it is time for me to go out and enjoy my life and turn it over to someone else and let them bring in some new ideas,” Sgt. Duesler said on Thursday prior to his retirement party.
Several people attended the party as they shared fond memories and wished Sgt. Duesler well in his retirement.

This is what Sgt. Duesler said he will miss the most as he find himself on the outside looking in.
“I will absolutely miss being here,” Sgt. Duesler said. “I’ve met some wonderful people through this job. That’s going to be the tough part, walking out today and knowing that, yeah I’ll still be able to come visit and everything, but I’m not there anymore on a daily basis.”
But he also took time to reflect and thank those who supported him and law enforcement throughout the years.
Sgt. Duesler said law enforcement, especially now, has a difficult job but the community has always stood behind them and it made all the difference.
“Law enforcement, in general, is going through a very tough time right now and the people of Ector County have always been supportive of law enforcement here and believe me that makes a difference in the way we get through our jobs every day,” Duesler said.
