MIDLAND, Texas (ABC Big 2 / FOX 24 ) – Last minute preparations took place today for the “Best of the West” 2021.

The Bush Tennis Center in Midland is gearing for its 5th annual Best of the West Weekend with a lot of activities in store.

“We’re going to kick it off tomorrow morning with the hot dog run. We have over 27 barbeque teams for our barbeque for Bynum then of course a big concert with Pat Green and his full band tomorrow night, said Tim Stallard, Director of the Bush Tennis Center

Each event will benefit a local non-profit including a barbecue contest supporting the Bynum School for special needs children.

“People come from all over we got people here from Brownwood and all over the state that come in and compete in this,” said David Nix.

Cooks like David Nix are getting ready to bring their a-game to the grill.

“Oh yeah, we’re going to cook a lot of barbecue and hope that we have some luck with the competition but if we don’t that’s okay because we are out here trying to help these kids,” Nix said.

And of course there will be lots of tennis.

“I hope everybody has a good time,” said Madison Dyer, “COVID has been pretty rough, so I know this is a good kind of opening for everything and just for people to get back into the swing of things.”

But most of all people hope the best of the west weekend will brings everyone closer.

“I’m looking forward to seeing people out getting back together and you know just one more step back towards normalcy,” Stallard said.
