Permian Basin among trauma service areas over 15 percent

AUSTIN, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Trauma Service area J, which includes nearly all of the counties in the Permian Basin, has been listed among the areas above 15 percent hospital capacity for at least seven days.

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, Trauma Service Area J is now on the list, along with trauma service areas A and B, which include Lubbock and Amarillo, as well as I, El Paso, and T.

As per Governor Greg Abbott’s executive order, counties that are above 15 percent hospital capacity for seven days must reduce their capacity at local businesses to 50 percent.

Midland County announced all local businesses including restraints…. retail stores… and office buildings will be required to return to 50 percent capacity. Local bars will also be forced to shutdown. This order will go into affect after midnight on Nov. 24.

Officials in the City of Andrews also announced they will be moving back to 50 percent capacity at local businesses. Howard and Pecos counties announced rolled back capacities as well.

City officials in Odessa have not confirmed the business capacity reduction, but Mayor David Turner has called for a news conference at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.
