Payton endorses Pfluger for District 11

MIDLAND, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Newly elected Midland Mayor Patrick Payton is wasting no time in announcing his pick to replace U.S. Rep. Mike Conaway for District 11.

Payton has officially announced that he will endorse August Pfluger for Congress.

District 11 will officially be up for grabs in 2020 after Conaway announced in 2019 that he will retire from Congress. Since the announcement, more than 10 candidates have joined the race for the seat.

Payton is just the latest local figure to endorse Pfluger for the seat, following endorsements from State Rep.s Drew Darby, Andy Murr, and Hood County Sheriff Roger Deeds.

Pfluger also has the backing from the Texas Sheep and Cattle Raisers Association and the Texas Farm Bureau.

“I’m honored to support August Pfluger for Congress and know that he’s the right choice to fight for the citizens of Midland and defend the values we hold dear,” said Payton in a statement. “August has a servant’s heart and a warrior’s resolve…he’s not afraid to stand up to the Washington liberals and he won’t back down when it comes to securing our border, preserving our God-given constitutional rights, protecting the unborn, and defending our religious liberties.”
