ODESSA, Texas (NEXSTAR) – Welcome to the world, Ava!
Ava was the first baby born in 2021 at Odessa Regional Medical Center. Weighing in at six pounds and 19 inches long, Ava was born at 4:48 a.m. Friday morning to parents Carla Mendez and Shawon Parker.
Ava and her parents were also the first recipients of the 2021 POWER Bag, an initiative that encourages parents to read, speak and interact with their newborn.
“ORMC and Steward Health Care are proud to partner with the Education Partnership of the Permian Basin (and) other community sponsors on this POWER Initiative,” ORMC President Stacey Brown said. “It is incumbent upon us (to) help educate new parents on the importance of constant communication with their new baby from day one all the way through their childhood.”
The POWER Bag includes the CDC Milestone Moments Baby Booklet along with other educational books and toys.
