ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – The Odessa Police Department is warning residents of a Social Security scam that is circulating within the city.

Officials say residents have reported receiving calls from an OPD number, 432-333-3641, and the caller claims to be with the Social Security Administration.

The caller then tells residents there has been fraudulent activity on their account before asking for their Social Security number to verify the account, according to the OPD.

Odessa Police are urging residents to avoid giving out their social security number or any other personal information.

For more information, residents can contact the Office of the Inspector General at 1-800-269-0271.
