ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – The Odessa Police Department is notifying residents of a phone scam that is circulating.

Police officials say they have received complaints about someone who is calling residents claiming to be with the department.

The caller is accused of pretending to be a Lieutenant and telling victims they have a failure to appear warrant, according to a release.

The scammer then asks the victim to call 432-653-2112 to make payment and avoid being arrested, police say.

Residents are asked to avoid giving out personal information over the phone. Police also say they will never solicit payment over the phone.
