OPD: Suspect crashes while evading deputies, one killed

ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – One person was killed after a suspect crashed while evading deputies with the Ector County Sheriff’s Office, according to the Odessa Police Department.

OPD officers were called to the crash around 2:30 a.m. Friday morning at the intersection of 22nd Street and West County Road.

While investigating, officers learned the suspect was evading deputies with the Ector County Sheriff’s Office before the driver lost control and crashed his Chevrolet Silverado into a tree, the release reads.

The driver, Luis Barrientes, and a passenger in the truck were both taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Officials say the passenger, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead by medical personnel.

Neither were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, according to the release.
