OFR firefighter charged in Colorado shooting

ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – An Odessa Fire Rescue firefighter and EMT has been arrested and charged in the shooting death of another OFR firefighter.

Officials with the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado say they responded to the shooting on Wednesday night.

At the scene, deputies located a man with a gunshot wound who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a release.

They later located Evan Gaw, another OFR firefighter, in a nearby field, according to the release. Gaw has since been charged with murder. The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office says the two men had stopped at a campsite for the night and the investigation is ongoing.

Officials with the City of Odessa have identified the victim as Michael Mack.

“Odessa Fire Rescue, along with the City of Odessa, would like to extend our deepest condolences to the Mack family,” a statement from the City reads. “Michael Mack was an outstanding employee and individual, who will be greatly missed.”
