Texas Rangers now investigating the incident

ODESSA, Texas (BIG 2/ FOX 24)- “Era una balacera yo me asuste porque se oyó muy cerquita de mi ventana.”

It was a shootout I got scared because I heard it right outside my window says nearby neighbor Ignacia Muñoz.

“At approximately 6:07 Odessa Police Responded here to the 600 blocks of South Sam Houston, right on the corner of South Sam Houston and Mable, in reference to shots being fired,” says Cpl. Steve LeSueur.

Muñoz thinking it was a shooting “like the ones she has been seeing” on the news recently. “Dije, ¿Oye va a ser una balacera como todas las que estan pasando, verdad?’ Me asuste y pronto me asume en la ventana cuado llenó aquí todo de policías,” says Muñoz.

At her window, she says she saw police swarm the nearby street corner.

“Upon arrival, officers made contact with a male subject who immediately opened fire on OPD Officers,” says LeSueur.

OPD says officers fired back striking the suspect in the arm. “The subject was shot he was transported to MCH with serious bodily injury. There was one OPD Officer who did sustain injuries as a result of the shooting. He was transported to Medical Center Hospital.”

That officer later released with non-life-threatening injuries and all three officers involved placed on administrative leave.
As for the motive or type of gun involved OPD has not released that information and have now turned the investigation over to the Texas Rangers.
