As of Saturday, March, 21, 2020 there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ector County.
• Ector County Health Department (ECHD) is aware of 15 samples collected, 11 are negative, 4 are pending results. These numbers may seem lower than other areas. This is because of testing facilities, such as drive-thru testing. Those generate more numbers. Our hospitals will be using the urgent care clinics which are strategically located throughout the county. This will be more efficient than a central clinic.
• ECHD is unaware of private collection samples until they are reported
• ECHD would like to remind Ector County Citizens that ONLY 1.6% of Texans infected with COVID
19 have died. 98% of persons who are infected with COVID-19 survive with only mild symptoms.
• Please continue to follow CDC guidelines
There are two methods for being tested:

  1. Private Process
    a. A person can contact their primary care physician paid for by the patient or insurance.
The criteria for testing may differ from CDC requirements.
  2. Government Testing
    a. The CDC criteria MUST BE MET to qualify for no costs testing through the public labs.
(Test results are usually 24-48 hours)
    b. Refer to DSHS guide for this criteria

Beginning on Monday 23, 2020 Medical Center Hospital is opening a call center for screening and urgent care centers will be screening patients for testing. That number is 432-640-2747.

A person can call 2-1-1 and be directed to low or no cost providers
