Neighbor and family reaction

MIDLAND, Texas (BIG2/FOX24) – Police are still looking for two people involved in a home invasion last week that left 26-year old man, Joshua Shoals, dead.

Shoals was shot and killed in his Midland home around 10:30pm on June 25th. The Midland Police Department has stated:

“We believe the suspects picked that house for a reason. We believe they had intel on the occupants and this was not a random act.”

Many residents on the block say they were notified of the incident hours later and were told to stay inside. One resident, Rose Enriquez, says she never expected something like this would happen on their street.

“The officers came over here and told us not to come out, because they were investigating. That’s all I know. They told us they had shot a young man over there… They take care of me, because I’m a widow you know… We’re all good neighbors,” said Enriquez.

She says she has long-thought the Shoals were good neighbors. She says Joshua Shoals left behind two little kids.

“They would come play with my granddaughters here,” explained Enriquez. “I just prayed with them, and I didn’t ask questions or anything. I just feel sorry for them.”

And Shoals’ sister, Kassondra Shoals, says her brother was a beacon of light to all.

“My brother was an amazing man and even better father, always cared for others and wanted people to be the ‘Better them’. Always smiling and cracking jokes. Very carefree and loving. You could meet him once and would leave feeling like y’all had been friends for life. Such a bright light in life. He’ll be greatly missed by so many”
