Extended Interview: Sgt. Gary Duesler talks about National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

Local News

ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Today is a special day, a day to thank authorities.  It is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.  Law enforcement officers have chosen a profession that puts their lives on the line every day for their communities.

This past year has been extremely tough for the Permian Basin with the mass shooting back in August.

We spoke today with Sergeant Gary Duesler with the Ector County Sheriff’s Department.

He said, “Law enforcement has had a tough year with everything that’s happened not just locally but throughout the world.  People are looking at law officers in a little bit of a different light and I think with a little bit more appreciation.  That appreciation factor, it can make your day because we never know what we’re going to go up against.”

National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day was started back in 2015.
