MIDLAND, Texas (Nexstar) – A stabbing outside of a Midland night club has left one man dead.
According to Midland Police and a probable cause affidavit we obtained from the County of Midland, the suspect is 22-year-old Miguel Angel Diaz-Robles.
He has been arrested and charged with murder. Police say just after 1:30 early Sunday morning, off-duty officers called for paramedics at Club Arriba.
The club sits on S. Midkiff Road near W. Wall Street.
Police revealed that Diaz-Robles and the victim were arguing with each other. Then, the argument spilled outside where the victim was stabbed multiple times. The affidavit says the suspect stabbed the victim in the chest with a knife. The victim later died at Midland Memorial Hospital less than an hour later.
A roll of gauze was still lying in the parking lot outside the club as of noon on Monday.
Police say the suspect took off after the stabbing. But, it was an anonymous tip submitted to Crime Stoppers of Midland that led officers to the suspect.
“The suspects in these crimes, it makes them accountable,” said Angie Valenzuela, executive director of Crime Stoppers of Midland.
She says the nonprofit, Crime Stoppers, remains an important way to anonymously report information to law enforcement that people may otherwise be scared to call the police about.
“When you call Crime Stoppers, you don’t have to be worried about somebody finding out that you called,” Valenzuela said.
Angie says a cash reward will be given to the tipster and the amount will be reviewed on Tuesday during the nonprofit’s board meeting.
During an interview with detectives, police say the suspect confessed to the murder.
The investigation is still ongoing. Police are waiting to release the identity of the victim since next of kin have not yet been notified.
Diaz-Robles is being held on $250,000 bond.
