MIDLAND, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Students in Midland will begin the academic year at home. According to a release from Midland ISD, the district will begin the year with remote learning on August 19.
“Given the level of COVID-19 transmission in our community, we will start the school year at home for the health and safety of our students, staff and community,” Superintendent Orlando Riddick said in a statement. “Our staff has worked tirelessly this summer to ensure learning would occur this fall no matter the status of COVID-19 in Midland.”
Currently, there are more than 2,000 confirmed Coronavirus cases in Midland County and the positivity rate is near 30 percent.
District officials say laptops and Wi-Fi hotspots will be available to families as needed to facilitate the online model.
