MIDLAND, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Midlanders are still paying the most on average for gas, according to AAA Texas.
The statewide average price per gallon currently sits right at $1.35, which is four cents less than thiis day last week, AAA says. By comparison, drivers in Midland are paying $1.78 per gallon.
Officials with AAA Texas say the average is again the cheapest is has been since Feb. 2016 and they expect the downward trend in gasoline prices to continue with crude production drops along with market prices. Additionally, officials say the gasoline supply, like oil, is high with many storage facilities at capacity.
Unlike crude, AAA Texas says they do not expect gas prices to fall into the negative.
“It is no surprise that gas prices are falling around the Lone Star State due to the demand destruction caused by COVID-19,” AAA Texas spokesman Daniel Armbruster. “Oil prices traded in the negative for the first time ever earlier this week, but gas prices are not forecast to go negative as there are several components which go into a gallon of gasoline.”
